The population of patients with Alzheimer's disease is growing exponentially as our population ages. This overview of the basic science, pathophysiology and the clinical presentation of Alzheimers's Disease allows clinicians to understand this disease and their patients' needs.

Topics reviewed in this lecture include:

  • aging and dementia;
  • symptoms and stages of Alzheimer's Disease;
  • current diagnosis and treatment options; and
  • risk factors and considerations related to dental care.
