Legislative Alerts

 The Governor has signed legislation changing mandatory continuing education requirements for dentists practicing in New York State. The new requirements are:

• Completion of 60 hours of continuing education each re-licensing period
• Maintenance of CPR certification
• One time completion of a course in ethics/jurisprudence

The NYCDS will inform members about implementation when details become available. The Henry Spenadel Continuing Education Program has increased the number of CPR courses it will offer.

Amalgam Separator Deadline Approaches

You have installed an amalgam separator, or are about to, so that you are in compliance by the May 12, 2008 deadline. You are also required to file a "Notice of Dental Amalgam Separator Installation" with the Department of Environmental Protection.  Download form at http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/water_pdf/dentalform.pdf

Where asked to provide the name of the applicable sewage treatment works/sewer authority, write "NYC DEP"
