Lecture Description:
Direct restorative isn't always the most glamorous part of a general dentist's day - but it can put a spring in your step if you're able to produce restorations that are harder, better, faster & stronger predictably. We'll talk about common pitfalls of direct restorative including stained margins, chipped marginal ridges and point contacts and how to avoid those before they happen! Tissue management, heated composite and matrix selection will be discussed in depth, using case based examples to support literature available.
Learning Objectives:
Why tissue management is important, and not just for impressions or scans
Re-evaluating your preparation design, thinking beyond the box and prepping for your materials
Review of real-life clinical scenarios with time for Q&A
Speaker Information: Dr. Lauren Rainey
Dr. Rainey is a graduate of the University of the Pacific, Arthur A Dugoni School of Dentistry and completed a General Practice Residency at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. At Tufts she was introduced to the use of surgical microscopes for restorative care, which she continues to use today. In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Rainey began teaching at the Dugoni School of Dentistry in the Department of Reconstructive Dental Sciences and the Department of Dental Practice. There she taught both lectures and hands-on coursework in teledentistry, pre-clinical fixed and direct restorative and local anesthesia administration.
Dr. Rainey teaches direct composite restorative programs including black triangle closures, predictable Class II techniques and is an advocate for using composite resin for crown alternatives wherever possible. She teaches dentists in the US and Canada, both in-person and in virtual hands-on formats, oftentimes using a surgical microscope for enhanced visualization.
In 2016, Dr. Rainey purchased a paper chart, PPO-based practice, and fully transitioned to a digital fee-for-service boutique practice in Berkeley, California. She is active in giving back to her communities through her involvement in Girl Scouts, Mommy Dentists in Business. She currently sits on the board of the Alumni Association at the Dugoni School of Dentistry and is a speaker for Catapult Education's Speakers Bureau.
