Ethics & Peer Review
Ethics
For more information on uniform guidelines and procedures for the investigation of ethics complaints, read New York State Dental Association's Ethics Manual.
On September 26th, dentists, residents, and students had the unique opportunity to hear from experts Paul Teplitsky, Chair of the NYS Dental Association Ethics Council, and Lance Plunkett, General Counsel for the NYS Dental Association. They provided valuable insights into real ethical and legal scenarios in dentistry. This program focused on helping attendees navigate the "gray areas" that often arise in daily practice, offering guidance on complex issues. It was an invaluable chance to enhance decision-making skills and avoid common ethical missteps in the field. Watch the full session on YouTube for key takeaways!
Peer Review
The Peer Review process is an impartial, confidential way to resolve complaints about the appropriateness of care and quality of treatment performed by NYSDA member dentists. Peer Review is conducted by committees of volunteer dentists in accordance with the NYSDA Peer Review Manual and the NYSDA Agreement to Submit to Peer Review. There is no charge for this service. If treatment is found to be acceptable, the doctor receives the fees owed by the patient. Parties cannot sue subsequent to a Peer Review decision. The process has been upheld repeatedly by the courts. For more information, read A Guide to Peer Review.
