Lecture Description:

By the end of this lecture, participants will understand the integrated approach of combining Orthodontics, Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT), Myofunctional Therapy, and interdisciplinary collaboration (including oral surgeons, physical therapists, craniosacral therapists, and osteopaths) to effectively manage sleep apnea. Participants will gain the skills to design personalized treatment plans that optimize airway space, improve patient comfort, and support long-term outcomes in sleep apnea treatment.

Practical Implications:

  1. Enhanced Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Participants will learn how to collaborate effectively with oral surgeons, physical therapists, craniosacral therapists, and osteopaths to create a comprehensive treatment approach, improving patient comfort and clinical outcomes in sleep apnea management.
  2.  Improved Appliance Design and Fit: The lecture will provide insights on incorporating orthodontic principles into OAT, such as using arch expansion and thermoplastic materials, ensuring a better appliance fit and retention, and enhancing patient compliance and comfort. It will also explore how orthodontics and OAT can be integrated with restorative treatments to ensure a functional bite and improve the fit of oral appliances. Additionally, collaborating with physical therapists (PTs) to design and adjust night guards can support better posture, reduce TMJ symptoms, and aid in the long-term effectiveness of the appliance. Myofunctional therapy will be emphasized as a key component to support proper oral function, reinforcing the structural changes made through orthodontics and appliance therapy for optimal long-term results.
  3. Educating Patients and Referring Providers with AI and Social Media: Attendees will learn how to use AI tools to create personalized treatment plans. Additionally, they will discover strategies for utilizing social media to educate patients and providers, build a supportive community, and foster ongoing engagement in sleep apnea and orthodontic care
