GAO Issues Congressional Testimony on Medicaid and Medicare Program Integrity
The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued Congressional testimony on Medicaid and Medicare program integrity. GAO found that while billions of dollars had been saved due to past GAO program integrity recommendations, a combined total of over $100 billion in improper payments in the Medicare and Medicaid programs were still made in fiscal year 2023, representing 43 percent of the government-wide total of estimated improper payments that all government agencies reported for that year.
