GAO Issues Report on VA Community Care Program Management
The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a report on the management of the Veterans Administration (VA) Community Care Program. The VA Community Care Program refers patients to community health care providers, including dentists, when the VA finds its own system cannot provide care in a timely manner. GAO found that the VA program staff don't have clearly defined procedures, such as how to track and communicate about program problems, and the VA eliminated program manager positions for the Community Care Program, thereby rendering VA management of the program inadequate.
