USDOL Issues Two Employment Law Resources

Aug 22, 2024

The United States Department of Labor (USDOL) has issued two new employment law resources that can be read and accessed below.

Accommodating Employees with Gender Dysphoria

For some people whose gender identity differs from their assigned sex at birth, the experience may be associated with significant distress or impairment in functioning, including at work.  They may experience symptoms of depression, chronic anxiety, and panic attacks, profoundly limiting their ability to work effectively.  Employers and employees should know that this condition, gender dysphoria, may be a protected disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Gender dysphoria can impact workers in different ways, and USDOL’s Job Accommodation Network (JAN) has a new resource with strategies for accommodations.

USDOL’s AI Initiative Earns Spot on Zero Project Shortlist

We’re excited to share that USDOL’s work on inclusive artificial intelligence (AI) through our Partnership on Employment and Accessible Technology (PEAT) initiative has been shortlisted for the 2025 Zero Project Awards!  The 2025 awards focus on the themes of inclusive employment and information and communication technology.  USDOL was recognized for PEAT’s robust resources on disability-inclusive AI-powered employment tools, which have paved the way for employers to maximize the benefits and reduce the risks of using AI in their hiring technology.  Stay tuned: Winners will be announced in December.
