GAO Issues Report on Generative AI in Health Care
The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a report on generative artificial intelligence (AI) in health care. GAO found that generative AI tools are being developed to speed up drug development and clinical trials, improve medical imaging, and reduce administrative burdens, but that most tools remain largely untested in real-life settings and that generative AI can create erroneous outputs, raising questions for policymakers about how to balance potential benefits with protections for patients and their data.
