FDA Issues New Recommendations on Electronic Medical Devices and X-Ray Imaging

Per the notice below, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued new recommendations on the use of x-ray imaging when a patient has an electronic medical device.

New FDA Recommendations for Preventing Damage to Electronic Medical Devices Caused by Interference from Radiation During X-ray Imaging and Radiation Therapy

  • Wearable diabetes devices
  • Cardiac implantable devices
  • Neurostimulators
Medical radiation procedures — such as CT scans — are safe and effective for most people.  However, we have received a few reports of problems linked to possible interference between certain imaging technologies and electronic medical devices.  Read the recommendation for people with these devices and physicians who monitor these devices on FDA.gov.
